Our secret Weapon for high energy levels and stress-free living is....
Meditaion
Both Kev and I often get asked where we get all our energy from. Well, I guess part of it has to be from going to the gym 5 days a week, but one of the most incredible, and under-rated tools that we discovered last year, is meditation. A 20 minute meditation is equivalent to 1 hour of deep sleep. It also provides an opportunity for the mind to enjoy some quiet time, slowing the ‘mental chatter’ and allowing your own thoughts to be heard, often bringing dramatic results in the form of amazing ideas, good decision making, and inspired creativity.
Yes, I know, to many people, the word ‘meditation’ conjures up all sorts of stereo-typical images. Some will often say “I can’t meditate” and assume there is some required skill involved in the process. Many assume that something is supposed to happen during a meditation, perhaps some sort of divine revelation, or vision. Ironically, it is this misconception that reinforces people’s beliefs that they do not have what it takes to meditate, and prevents them from participating, and enjoying the benefits of it. The reality is, everyone was born with the ability to meditate, but unfortunately, over here in the western world, it has been denied to us from an early age through the mental conditioning that has been forced upon us by our society, starting with school, and continuing on from there. Anyone can meditate! - Here’s how... Meditation is quite simply the process of allowing your mind to go quiet by entering into a state of complete relaxation. This is usually achieved in many ways, but they all involve focusing your attention on one specific thing, and ignoring everything else. As I said earlier, over here in the western world, we generally find this process very difficult to do. We simply don’t know how to sit still! Fortunately, there is a brilliant solution in the form of ‘guided meditations’ - with these, ANYONE can meditate successfully. Forget the days of old, when guided meditation CD’s lasted an hour, been there, done that, and found it impossible to maintain as a daily routine because it simply took too much time out of one’s day. Fortunately, 20 minute guided meditations are now widely available, and building them into your day is a sinch. Personally, I meditate for 20mins at about mid-afternoon each day, usually after the gym and a shower. As a result, I have a new lease of energy and drive for the rest of the day, and stress is a thing of the past. I personally use the Meditainment audio recordings, as both Kev and I have found them to be amazingly effective. (see the banner below this article) Lie down or Sit up? Some people like to lie down while listening to a guided meditation. Personally, I prefer sitting upright, just so that I don’t end up falling asleep. I don’t physically do anything apart from close my eyes and listen to the 3D virtual mind-movie that is being played out in the audio. Within about 10 minutes, I am miles away! incredibly relaxed, and feeling amazing as the meditation gently guides me through the process in the form of a simple story. Get a Massage! A particular favourite of mine is the “spa of relaxation” where you get to experience a jacuzzi, and a massage! At the end of the meditation, I actually feel as though I’ve really been in a jacuzzi and had had a massage! Remember in The Secret? when they talked about playing out an event in your mind was the equivalent of doing it for real - and that your mind couldn’t tell the difference? Well this is a perfect example of that in action. try it and see for yourself. Using an aromatherapy oil diffuser will also enhance the experience and make the experience even more relaxing. As I said, there are plenty of 20 minute meditation recordings out there. We personally use the Meditainment recordings (banner below) and have purchased the full package which has allowed us to download the entire collection of 60 recordings. Personally, I think they are so good, it has been one of the best investments I have ever made. Be sure to try out their freebie meditation “The Secret Garden” to get a taste of exactly what I’m talking about. Rick
